Speaking on Sunday, October 11, 2015 via a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose wondered why the APC-led Federal Government was planning on extraditing the late Alamieyeseigha when he had already been convicted and had served his prison time before being pardoned by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Governor Fayose said: “Obviously, the Federal Government was behind the plot to extradite the Alamieyeseigha to the United Kingdom to face fresh trial, a situation that made him to abandon his medical treatment in Dubai.

“Even though I am not against anti-corruption fight, it is painful that in the present day Nigeria, political vendetta is being allowed to override the sovereignty of the country, such that the Presidency was eager to release, a citizen of Nigeria that had been tried, convicted and later pardoned in accordance with the laws of the country.

“Having been tried and convicted eight years ago, served his sentence and forfeited properties to the Bayelsa State Government; methinks Alamieyeseigha should have been allowed to live his life without unnecessary political intimidation and harassment.

“I have consistently asked them why they have closed their eyes to the corruption allegations against their own people. Why is their attention only on people from the Southern part of Nigeria? And now that Alamieyeseigha has been hounded and harassed to death, what else can the apostles of political vendetta do?

“My prayer is that God in His infinite mercies will console the entire Alamieyeseigha’s family and the people of Bayelsa State, especially members of our great party, the PDP and also grant them the fortitude to bear this sad and painful loss.”

  1. When people who talk like Fayose are governors in Nigeria one can see why mediocrity thrives in the country.
When did the Federal government say they intended to reopen Alamieyeseigha’s case? When did they say they intended to extradite him?
If overzealous and rumour mongering bloggers and others like Fayose begin to peddle rumours, does that mean the Federal govt have said so? So is it what a govt that is faced with numerous policy issues would now be doing, calling press conferences and debunking those endless and faceless rumours everyday?
And why would Alamieyeseigha immediately begin to ‘die’ over a mere rumour without any word on that from the govt?
People like Fayose should have their pride of place at the motor park, that’s where people with such low thinking and rumour mongering pedigree operate. At 21st century a governor should be someone who thinks outside the box, someone whose opinion shows responsibility and should be fact- driven and not a rumour-monger like the ordinary jobless man on the street.
