APGA Suspends Its National Chairman As Obiano Decamping Plan Rumoured

Must read

The National Working Committee of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has suspended the party’s national chairman, Dr. Victor Oye for alleged gross misconduct.

There were indications that the Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano, would review his membership of APGA.

A member of the NWC of the party who pleaded anonymity said on Thursday, October 6, 2016 on phone that the chairman was suspended after the party rose from its monthly meeting in Abuja, adding that suspension of the national chairman was in line with the provisions of the party’s constitution.

He said the suspension was as a result of findings that the chairman breached the party’s constitution and his other inordinate practices.

But it was learnt the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano was not in support of the move to suspend the national chairman and tried in vain through phones calls to stop it and may join the rival All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

“The governor was calling us to stop the suspension, but nobody listened to him.

“Now what we are hearing is that the governor may join the APC to realize his reelection next year. If that happens, you know what that means to our party Obiano is the only governor we have in APGA”, the source said

Chief Jerry Obasi who is the deputy national secretary of the party said the suspension was necessary to save the party from imminent self destruction and reposition it for greatness.

“This given the circumstances surrounding the party under the leadership of the suspended chairman.

Among others suspended were the deputy national chairman, (North), Alh. Abubakar Adamu and deputy national chairman (South), Chief Uchenna Okogbuo, who were allegedly indicted for several constitutional breaches.

“Some of the allegation leveled against them included: “not involving NWC in making electoral regulations to given nomination/selection of candidates and not involving NWC in day to day running of the party, which violates article 12 (3) of the party’s constitution among others”, he said, adding that a former local government chairman in Enugu State, Chief Nwabueze Okafor was nominated as the acting national chairman of the party.

When contacted on the telephone, the APGA state chairman in the state, Nobert Obi, said he would not want to comment on the issue now.

But when contacted the embattled national chairman said there was no problem in the party, and that nothing of such happened.

“We held our meeting which was properly conducted. After the meeting we heard that three persons went to press to write some nonsense. Is that normal, do you run party on the pages of WhatsApp? Did you read it from any paper? All those that called me I told them the true story.

“I held a world press conference in my office where I spoke on national issues, I did not talk about it because there is no matter to be raised.

“Our party is moving forward, we are preparing Ondo election and Abia local government and that is where I am focusing now, am not focusing on what three persons are doing.,” he said.
