Ese Oruru, the 14-year-old girl who was abducted from her home in Bayelsa State, taken to Kano and forcibly converted to Islam and married to her abductor has given birth to a baby girl.

According to reports, Oruru went into labour on Thursday, May 26, 2016 and was taken the State Government House Clinic in Yenagoa where she gave birth to a baby girl at about 10.15 am.

Her father, Charles Oruru confirmed to the press that Ese is in a good condition after giving birth. Together with his wife, he made an appearance on AIT Television with their new granddaughter.

‘”Yes, my daughter gave birth in the morning around a quarter past 10. The mother and the child are well. She gave birth to herself (a baby girl). We are very happy that she gave birth safely’,” Oruru said.

He also added that Ese didn’t go through “much trouble” giving birth and his family is excited about the new addition to the family.

Oruru’s abductor, Yunusa Dahiru is currently facing trial on a 5-count charge at a federal high court in Bayelsa over the abduction of the then 13-year-old and could be handed a 25-year jail sentenced if found guilty. His charges include kidnapping, human trafficking, unlawful carnal knowledge, and sexual exploitation of a minor.

Dahiru has confessed to being responsible for his victim’s pregnancy and has been in prison custody unable to fulfil the bail conditions handed to him by the presiding judge,  Justice Ajiya Nganjiwa.
