There have always been strange theories about sex and what it does to the power of the human body. Boxer Muhammed Ali allegedly held off from sex six weeks before a match.
On the other side of the coin, some have believed that sex comes with being physically active. Many Olympians have talked candidly about their sexcapades in the Olympic village including ping pong player, Matthew Syed who reportedly said he “got laid more often in those two and a half weeks than the rest of my life up to that point,” according to TIME.
So which mentality is correct? Is pre-game sex good or bad? Does it actually affect performance?
Teams Practicing Abstinence:
Bosnia, Russia, Chile, and Mexico are all under dryspells. These teams have been practicing abstinence for the World Cup and saving the scoring for the field.
Teams In A Gray Area:
Spain and Germany allow their players to have sex, unless it’s a night before a match.
Costa Rica players are not allowed to have sex until the second round in order to give the players more incentive to win (this is pretty smart if you ask us).
Brazil will allow its players to have sex, but it can’t be anything too freaky that will risk injuries.
France gives their players free reign, but is against all-nighters. Lastly Nigeria allows only married players to get it on with their wives.
Teams Who Can Get It On:
Every other team that wasn’t listed is allowing their players to have sex. Ow! Ow!
So as of now which philosophy seems to be working? Well, if you only look at who is winning then you would say giving your players free reign is best!
As of now Netherlands, Colombia, and Argentina are undefeated and the players are allowed to do the bump and grind without any restrictions. However, the three teams that have lost three games already are Cameroon, Australia, and Honduras. They also allow their players to do what they want.
So according to the standings, there isn’t much of a difference on whether players have sex or not. It looks like coaches should be spending more time making rules about not biting other players during the game than making rules about their personal sex lives.
