Bayelsa Poll: Ijaw Youth Council Counsels Against Electoral Violence

Must read

NAN – The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) on Wednesday urged Bayelsa youths to shun violence ahead of the December 5 governorship election in the state.

The President of IYC, Udengs Eradiri, made the appeal at the inauguration of a library and ICT facility named after the late Environmentalist, Oronto Douglas, at the Ijaw House in Yenagoa.

Eradiri said that youths should be wary of politicians who use them to foment trouble for political gains.

“Politicians have their different interests and they resolve their differences and wine and drink together, meanwhile, these are the people who compel us to fight each other,” Eradiri said.

Inaugurating the library, the Commissioner for Ijaw Affairs, Felix Tuodolor, commended IYC for immortalizing the late Ijaw icon.

Tuodolor said that the library was a capacity-building tool for Ijaw youths to enhance their intellectual prowess.

The commissioner later donated 43 sets of Ijaw language books to the council.

The complex has 30 internet enabled laptops configured to connect to online libraries.

A cross section of Ijaw Youths from across the Niger Delta region as well as executives of the IYC were at the occasion.
