The Department of State Services (DSS), Abuja Command, has alerted members of the public on the new tactics employed by fraudsters who obtain naked photos of women by animation and subsequently send them to their targets.
The Director of the command, Abubakar Bubuche, made the disclosure to newsmen while parading two suspected fraudsters on Wednesday, January 13, 2016.
He urged the general public to desist from sending their sensitive photographs to the internet to avoid being victimized.
He said: “This is to inform the general public about the activities of a criminal syndicate’s style of operation, including among others, the use of computer animation to strip their victims and put their nude pictures on Facebook and other social media platforms.
“The gang calls up their potential victims and orders them to pay certain amount of money to a given account numbers or have their personal pictures edited and posted nude on the Internet.”
Bubuche said several complaints prompted the service to swing into action, which eventually led to the arrest of two persons in Maiduguri, Borno State capital.
The suspects according to Bubuche are 22 and 35 years old.
He continued: “The public may wish to note that this syndicate has diverse membership with various professional skills, especially in the ICT.”
He further implored residents of the to be careful and also ensure they report suspected persons to security agencies.
Bubuche further stated that the DSS would stop at nothing to discharge its duties.
