SÃO PAULO, Brazil — Brazil have booked their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup following a 1–0 victory over Paraguay on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, in São Paulo, sealing their qualification with two games to spare in the CONMEBOL qualifying campaign.
The win marks the first for newly appointed manager Carlo Ancelotti, who oversaw a goalless draw against Ecuador in his debut last week.
Real Madrid forward Vinícius Júnior provided the decisive moment in the second half, scoring the match’s only goal to secure the victory in front of a jubilant home crowd.
“I’m very happy with today’s result. We needed to win at home for our fans too and qualify for the World Cup, which was our goal,” Vinícius told reporters after the match.
“Now [Ancelotti] will have more time to work, to see what he can improve. Today wasn’t one of our best games, but the important thing in qualifying is to win and prepare well for the World Cup.”
The result takes Brazil to 25 points from 16 matches, making it mathematically impossible for them to drop below the top six in South America’s 18-game qualifying round-robin.
The top six teams from the CONMEBOL region earn automatic qualification for the 2026 tournament, which will be hosted jointly by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
With the qualification confirmed, Brazil maintain their record as the only nation to have featured in every edition of the men’s FIFA World Cup since its inception in 1930.
Brazil join defending champions Argentina and Ecuador as the three CONMEBOL sides to have secured their spots so far.
The final two rounds of qualifiers are set to determine the remaining three automatic places and one intercontinental play-off slot available to South American teams.
Ancelotti’s side will now look to build on the momentum as preparations begin for the 2026 World Cup, where Brazil will aim to add a sixth title to their record haul.
