KADUNA, Nigeria – Reverend Father Jeremiah Yakubu, the parish priest of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Karku, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.
While the police in Kaduna State have yet to comment on the incident, the Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, Reverend Father Emmanuel Okolo, confirmed the kidnapping in a statement.
According to Father Okolo, Father Yakubu was abducted from the parish rectory at around 11 pm on Sunday, June 11, 2023.
The Chancellor called for intense prayers for the safe and speedy release of the abducted clergyman.
He also urged parishioners to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their hands.
Father Okolo assured the church community that all legitimate means would be employed to expedite the safe return of the kidnapped Reverend Father Yakubu.
The abduction of religious leaders has become a worrying trend in Nigeria, with several incidents reported in the past few years, often involving demands for ransom.
