According to Reuters, they went to the next gate, forced open a security door, ran to the apron and began signaling to the pilots to let them on the plane. The engines were running and the stairs had been removed.

The security staff at the airport arrested the duo who were later charged to a Maltese court on Thursday, June 18, 2015.

The couple’s defence counsel said that Apollonio longed to celebrate her 23rd birthday with her family but rather ended up getting arrested on the same day.

The court fined the couple the sum of 2,329 Euros which is about 2,656 dollars.
