According to a report by Sahara Reporters, a Taraba political ‘cabal’ made several attempts to deceive the press and acting governor of Taraba state, Umar Garba as to the real state of the mental health of governor Danbaba Suntai who was to arrive at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja from the United Kingdom.
According to the report, the leader of the cabal’s delegation Senator Emmanuel Bwacha had given those present the impression that Governor Suntai who arrived on a private jet from London would alight at the local wing, whereas he alighted at the international wing of the airport.
The awaiting crowd was left perplexed after Bwacha and some members of the delegation disappeared from the airport via the help of the minister of state for Niger Delta, smuggling the ailing governor into a private car.
Suntai had crashed with a plane he was piloting in October 2012 suffering considerable injuries.
As soon as news of the governor’s disappearance from the airport was communicated to the press crew and the acting governor, Sahara Reporters claims, they hurriedly left in a convoy to search for the governor.
Governor Suntai was later taken to a guest house in Asokoro area of Abuja where he had a brief chat with reporters, revealing that he was still in the same condition of health he was in August 2013.
During the brief chat with newsmen, governor Suntai said he was just arriving from Abuja instead of London.
The report alleged that the reason for the cover up was to prevent the acting governor, Umar Garba from assuming the office of governor.
