Attack On Edo Deputy Governor: Police Launch Manhunt For Gunmen

The police in Benin, the Edo State capital, have launched manhunt for the suspected attackers of the state deputy governor, Pius Odubu. Odubu was attacked on Saturday, April 30, 2016 in Auchi, Etsako Local Government Area of the state.

The police have vowed to bring attackers to book and make them face the wrath of the law. The incident was said to have left eight persons critically injured and are being treated in the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).

The state’s police commissioner, Chris Ezike, gave the assurance when he visited the campaign secretariat of the deputy governor in Benin City.

He pledged the police’s readiness to ensure the safety and security of lives and property before, during and after the governorship elections coming up September 2016.

He said, “I have given a marching order that those involved be arrested. This thing happened in the day time, names have been mentioned and we going after them.

“The actors in this game should know that power belongs to God. It is our appeal that they conduct themselves and their supporters in a lawful manner.

“We will get to the bottom of the incident. Luckily a few names have been mentioned and they are not ghosts.”
