ADO EKITI, Nigeria – Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, under the Ekiti State Police Command have apprehended two individuals suspected of siphoning diesel from generators used to power street lights in Ado Ekiti, the capital city of Ekiti State.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, made the announcement on a Thursday, June 22, 2023.
He identified the suspects as Danjuma and Idowu.
According to Abutu, the suspects were arrested by officers of the RRS along NTA Road in Ado Ekiti on the previous Wednesday, June 21, 2023.
At the time of their arrest, they were in possession of a 25-litre gallon that contained diesel, which is believed to have been siphoned from one of the street light generators.
During questioning, the suspects confessed to the crime, according to Abutu.
They also admitted that they had been engaging in this illegal activity for some time, selling the stolen diesel to unsuspecting residents of Ado-Ekiti.
Abutu announced that the suspects will be arraigned in court in due course.
Furthermore, the Police Public Relations Officer urged residents of Ekiti State to remain vigilant regarding security and to promptly report any suspicious or illicit activities in their vicinity to the authorities for prompt action.
