Officers from the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two persons at the Lekki tollgate on October 20, 2021, marking the anniversary of the #EndSARS Lekki Tollgate killing.
It has been a year since Nigerian youths took to the streets across southern Nigeria and FCT to protest police brutallity through a special unit named Special Anti-Robbery Squad – SARS.
Nigerian youths had planned to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the October 20 #EndSARS protest where protsters were killed at the Lekki Tollgate and at other protest points across the states.
There was heavy police presence at the Tollgate on Wednesday morning. As at the time of filing this report, two persons have been arrested.
One of those arrested is said to be journalist while the other person stormed the tollgate with a placard with the intention to stage a protest. The two persons are currently in police black maria vans.
The state police command released a statement on Tuesday warning residents of the state against staging any street protest. According to the statement, only indoor and virtual events will be allowed.
