International Experts Cancel Visit To #MH17 Crash Site Amid Renewed Fighting In Ukraine

International experts canceled plans to visit the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 crash site in restive eastern Ukraine as fighting in the region flared.

Officials from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) announced their decision on Sunday at a hotel in Donetsk, a key city to the pro-Russian rebel movement fighting the government in Kiev.

Beyond retrieving bodies from the wreckage site, the investigation into the crash remained on hold as fighting raged between the Ukrainian government and pro-Russian separatists. Ukrainian officials announced that their forces had made advances in the rebel-held territory, reaching the outskirts of Donetsk.

On Saturday, the Dutch government that the first formal identification of a MH17 crash victim had taken place and the victim was a Dutch national. The government declined to release other identifying information such as age and sex. Of the 298 people who died when the Boeing 777 was shot down on July 17, 193 were Dutch citizens.
