Femi Fani-Kayode, a former minister of aviation and a leading opposition figure in Nigeria, has issued a statement refuting reports that he has left the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and joined a lesser known oppisition party, the Social Democratic Party, SDP.
In an emailed statement to The Trent on Monday, May 21, 2018, signed by Bisi Olawunmi, his special assistant on social media, Fani-Kayode slammed the reports as “nothing but social-media gossip and fake news”.
“Reports that Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, the former Minister of Aviation, has left the PDP and joined the SDP are false. Such reports are nothing but social-media gossip and fake news put out by disgruntled elements working for the Buhari administration,” the statement read.
“They are best ignored and treated with the contempt that they deserve,” the statement ended.
