Hayden Panettiere’s Cause of Death Remains Undetermined Amid Reported Fentanyl Inquiry

Must read

GREENVILLE, United States — The cause of actress Hayden Panettiere’s death in Greenville remains undetermined as investigators await toxicology results.

Panettiere, 36, was found unresponsive at a residence on Sunday, August 16, 2026, and was pronounced dead after emergency workers tried to revive her.

An autopsy found no injuries or other physical trauma that contributed to her death, according to the Greenville County Coroner’s Office.

The cause and manner of death remain pending while additional medical examinations are completed.

The Greenville Police Department said its preliminary investigation found no evidence of foul play or suspicious circumstances.

Reports Cite a Possible Contaminated Pill

Reports citing unnamed law-enforcement sources say investigators are examining whether Panettiere took a pill obtained as oxycodone that contained fentanyl.

That account has not been confirmed by the coroner, and toxicology testing has not established which substances, if any, contributed to her death.

According to the reports, Panettiere had obtained several black-market prescription drugs from an alleged supplier in Los Angeles before travelling to South Carolina.

The sources said investigators believe she may have taken the suspected oxycodone pill on the morning of her death.

Officials have not publicly confirmed that sequence of events.

The coroner has said the official findings remain pending, despite reports identifying a possible overdose.

Investigators Examine an Alleged Supplier

The Drug Enforcement Administration is involved in the investigation alongside authorities in Los Angeles and South Carolina.

Agents are reportedly examining Panettiere’s connection to the alleged supplier and attempting to determine the origin of the pill that may have contributed to her death.

No one has been arrested or charged in connection with the death.

Authorities have not publicly identified the alleged supplier.

The reported investigation remains centred on a theory, rather than a medical conclusion.

No official evidence has established that Panettiere consumed oxycodone, that a pill contained fentanyl, or that either substance caused her death.

Narcan Was Administered Before Paramedics Arrived

Brian Hickerson, with whom Panettiere was temporarily staying, administered Narcan before emergency workers arrived, according to statements reported by TMZ.

Narcan is used in suspected opioid overdoses, but its administration does not establish what substance Panettiere may have taken or determine the cause of her death.

The police report does not identify any particular drug as a contributing factor.

Hickerson has not been named as a suspect.

A statement issued through his lawyer said, “Hayden’s death remains under investigation and it is important to allow that investigation to proceed.”

The lawyer also noted the police finding that investigators had uncovered no evidence of foul play.

Toxicology Findings Still Awaited

Panettiere had previously discussed her struggles with alcohol and opioids, describing that period of her life as difficult and complicated.

Officials have not identified her history with addiction as the cause of her death.

Her family remembered her as “an incredible light and a force of nature”.

Until the toxicology examination is completed and the coroner issues a final determination, the reported connection between Panettiere’s death and a fentanyl-contaminated pill remains unproven.
