An Italian Roman Catholic priest has hanged himself in the vestry of his church after admitting to ”grave acts” with a teenage girl.

This incident happened on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 just moments before Father Mark Suard was to be relieved of his duties at his church by the bishop, His Grace Giampaolo Crepaldi, announced the diocese of Trieste, in Italy.

48-year-old Suard had confessed to the bishop on phone, two day earlier, to having sexually abused a 13-year-old girl, AFP reports.

Suard asked Crepaldi to two days to prepare “a letter begging forgiveness to God, the Church and the victim”, according to the news agency.

But when the bishop arrived at the church on Tuesday to officially notify the priest that he had been fired, Suard was found hanging in the church’s vestry.

In a statement, the diocese asked for prayers for the soul of the priest, expressing regrets that the case could not follow its “canon and judicial path” which could have brought the priest “a human and Christian recovery desirable in the respect of the laws”.
