Jonathan’s CONFAB Report Will Tackle Corruption – Ohanaeze Tells Buhari

Must read

Perturbed by the delay in the implementation of the National Conference report, the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to adopt the outcome of the conference as an anti-corruption template.

Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan had convoked the Confab at the twilight of his administration to address multiple structural imbalance plaguing the nation.

In a chat with Vanguard at his residence yesterday, former Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nduka Eya, lamented that having spent colossal funds to convoke the sovereign national conference Nigerians had been yearning for, the ‘change’ mantra adopted by the present administration will be tantamount to nothing without the implementation of the Confab report.

Eya said: ”There was need as every Nigerian has identified, to sit down and discuss on how we are going to live. Most segments of the country are complaining. What brought about the Biafran war? It was inequality, unfair play and injustice.

“Some people think they own this country. These challenges were what the Confab addressed. These challenges were generating a lot of mistrust among ourselves. Jonathan took the bull by the horn and was able to convoke the Confab where all shades of people came together to discuss the way forward.

“A section of this country never wanted the Confab because they are benefiting from the lopsidedness of the structure. The Confab built a bridge over the rivers of division in this country of how this country can go on and everybody was happy.

“Jonathan vowed to implement it. The All Progressives Congress, APC, thought the Confab was political and that was why they kicked against it. Now, we are almost six months down the line in the life of this administration and nobody is talking about it.

“The Confab report is a structural reconstruction of the country towards equity, justice and fair-play. These recommendations are what will help the fight against corruption.”
