OSOGBO, Nigeria — Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has won a second term in office.
Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, vice-chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti and the state returning officer, announced the result at the INEC collation centre in Osogbo on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
“Having satisfied the requirements of the law, [Ademola Adeleke] is hereby declared the winner and is hereby returned elected,” Ogunwole said.
Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, defeated Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress in Saturday’s governorship election.
He received 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji polled 444,815.
The result gave Adeleke a winning margin of 66,252 votes.
Accord Wins 19 Local Governments
Adeleke won 19 of Osun’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji carried 11.
The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third with 17,180 votes.
Fifteen political parties contested the election.
INEC recorded 1,010,684 accredited voters. A total of 1,005,800 votes were cast, including 985,079 valid votes and 20,721 rejected ballots.
Adeleke’s victory is particularly significant because he won his first term in 2022 as a candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party.
He subsequently left the PDP and sought re-election on the Accord platform, reshaping what had previously been a largely PDP-APC contest in the state.
His latest victory means the APC has again failed to regain control of Osun four years after Adeleke defeated then-Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
Adeleke won the 2022 election with 403,371 votes against Oyetola’s 375,027.
The governor will now begin another four-year term after securing a larger numerical victory than he recorded four years ago.
