Arewa Economic Forum Praises Tinubu for Extending FRSC Chief’s Tenure

ABUJA, Nigeria — The Arewa Economic Forum has praised President Bola Tinubu for extending the tenure of Federal Road Safety Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed.

The group said the decision rewards competence and performance in public service.

AEF Chairman Ibrahim Shehu Dandakata, on Saturday, August 15, 2026, said Mohammed had introduced significant reforms since assuming leadership of the FRSC.

The forum described his continued tenure as an opportunity to consolidate changes in technology, road safety enforcement and staff welfare.

Mohammed was appointed Corps Marshal in May 2024.

Dandakata said the FRSC had become increasingly technology-driven under Mohammed.

He cited the introduction of electronic document management, body cameras for patrol officers, contactless biometric capture for driver’s licence applications and a mobile platform for emergency response and public services.

The forum also said improvements to the FRSC’s printing infrastructure had increased production capacity to about 15,000 driver’s licences a day.

It credited Mohammed with strengthening emergency response operations and improving the deployment of senior personnel across the country.

The AEF also highlighted the FRSC’s ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System certification as evidence of improvements in institutional standards.

It described the reforms under Mohammed as “quiet but transformational”.

The forum said road crashes had fallen by 12 per cent compared with the corresponding period of the previous year.

It also credited the FRSC’s wider enforcement and rescue operations with reducing deaths on Nigerian roads over the longer term.

Dandakata said Mohammed was moving the agency towards greater use of data, technology and predictive enforcement rather than relying solely on traditional roadside operations.

The forum said those changes justified Tinubu’s decision to retain him.

Mohammed has served in the FRSC for more than three decades. He is a chartered accountant, a member of the National Institute and holds the traditional title of Sulukin Arewan Zazzau.

The Arewa Economic Forum said it expects him to use the extended period to deepen reforms and improve road safety across the country.
