JUST IN: Akpabio Emerges Senate Minority Leader

Former Akwa Ibom State Governor, who is currently Senator representing Akwa Ibom North West, Godswill Akpabio, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 emerged as the the minority‎ leader of the senate.

Akpabio was nominated by the South South caucus of the PDP in the Upper Chamber, although his nomination was hotly contested as it was claimed that Akbabio, who is a first-time senator should not be allowed to hold one of the principal offices in the Senate.

On Wednesday, July 22, 2015 Justice Gabriel Kolawole, of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja dismissed an application by two PDP members – Alaye Pedro and Okechukwu Ibeh – attempting to stop Senate President, Bukola Saraki from naming Akpabio as the Minority Leader.
