Just In: Former Governor, Ajimobi Dies Of COVID-19 Complications At 70

Former Governor of Oyo state, Abiola Ajimobi has died at the age of 70.

Ajimobi passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at First Cardiologist Consultants hospital in Lagos from COVID-19 complications.

The former governor had been in intensive care for the past three weeks after testing positive for COVID-19 on June 5.

Before venturing into politics, Ajimobi was formerly the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Oil and Chemical Marketing Company a subsidiary of Shell Petroleum, Nigeria. He left the oil sector in 2002 after 26 years, and was elected in 2003 as a Senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District.

He was elected as governor of Oyo state in 2011and served till 2019.

He is survived by his wife Florence Ajimo and their five children.
