KAFANCHAN, Nigeria – A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, has ordered the remand of a 40-year-old farmer, Zakaria Bulus, in a correctional center, following charges of alleged defilement of a deaf-mute 10-year-old girl.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Kaduna brought the charges against Bulus.
However, the presiding judge, Mr. Samson Kwasu, did not take Bulus’s plea due to lack of jurisdiction to hear the case.
Kwasu instructed the prosecutor to send the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice, and adjourned the case until July 18, 2023, for further mention.
Earlier, the NSCDC prosecutor, Mr. Marcus Audu, told the court that the victim’s mother, Mary Hosea, reported the matter at the corps office in Kafanchan on June 13, 2023.
Audu alleged that Bulus enticed the complainant’s daughter into an uncompleted building at Ungwan Masara and defiled her.
The young victim was then taken to the Salama Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Kafanchan for assistance.
According to the prosecutor, Bulus confessed to the crime during the course of the investigation.
