Kaduna Electric Confirms 6 People Killed Following ‘Power Surge’ In Zaria

The management of Kaduna Electric on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, has confirmed that six persons were killed after a power surge last week.

Daily Post recalls that a high voltage of electric killed 10 persons and burnt a house of one of the residents in the city.

However, in a statement on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, by the company’s Head of Corporate Communication, Malam Abdulazeez Abdullahi, on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, said contrary to some reports, its investigations revealed that six people died from the incident.

He revealed the names of the victims as; Mrs. Aliya Jibril, Ibrahim Ja’afaru, Murtala Ibrahim, Malam Auwal, Solomon Yusuf, and ASP Kokuma Lumba, adding that, all the deceased persons lived on Kagoro Close, Gwargwaje, except ASP Lumba who resided in the Police Barracks.

According to the statement, the six the company had reached out to the families of the six victims, just as it has taken measures to avoid recurrence.

He further added that the company is liaising with the traditional institutions and security agencies on the next steps.

“Investigations so far revealed that six persons lost their lives in the unfortunate electrical incident that occured in Zaria last week,” the statement said.

The statement said it has taken measures to avoid the repeat of high tension, just as it condoled the families of the deceased

“In the cause of its investigations, the company’s officials visited Gwargwaje community and met with families of the affected persons on three occasions since the incident to mourn with them and gather relevant information on the incident,” he said.

The statement said it had not received any information of more fatalities since its last visit to the community on Saturday, adding that it has also gathered detailed information on all those who sustained injuries or lost properties, just as it has been liaising with relevant security authorities and the traditional institution in Zaria to discuss next steps.

28 Killed In Fresh Terrorist Attacks In Southern Kaduna

Terrorists on Sunday, December 18, 2022, reportedly killed over 28 people in separate attacks in Malagum 1 and Sokwong communities of Kagoro Chiefdom in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Mathias Siman, the Council chairman, who confirmed the incident to newspapers on Monday, December 19, 2022, said he could only confirm seven people were gruesomely killed in Sokwong Community.

The attack is coming barely five days after an attack was launched in Malagum 1 killing three persons.

According to him all the houses in Sokwong Community had been completely razed down by the terrorist adding that he is yet to confirm the killings in Malagum one.

Mathias urged residents in the area to remain calm as security agencies were being deployed to carry out investigations in the area.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of Kaura Local Government Area, Hon. Atuk Stephen,  said over 22 people had been confirmed killed in Malagum 1, while eight were said to have been killed in Sokwong.

Atuk described the killings as deadly while calling on the Federal Government and security agencies to redouble their efforts in order to curtail renewed killings in the area.

“Attacks in our area have been consistent and multi-dimensional with efforts of the security operatives and government not seen or felt,” he added.

Mohammed Jalige, the spokesman of the Kaduna State Police command, could not be reached as of the time of filing this reports.
