Kidnappers Demand N4 Million Ransom For Release Of Catholic Priest In Kogi

A Catholic priest, Rev. Father Innocent Umor, has been kidnapped in the Ankpa area of Kogi State on Monday, May 4, 2015.

The kidnappers have demanded that a ransom of N4 million be paid for a safe release of the priest who was in charge of a church in Ikanepo parish under the Idah Catholic Diocese of the state.

It was gathered from another priest of the church, Rev. Father Hyacinth, that Umor’s abductors called the Bishop of the Diocese, Anthony Adaji, for the ransom.

He said, “The kidnappers were about five. They stormed the parish house around 2.10am on Monday and took the victim away.

“After several hours, they called the Bishop on the telephone and demanded N4 million as ransom.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Sola Adebayo, said the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Samuel Ogunjemilusi, was aware of the abduction.

According to Punch, he said the CP had ordered the Anti-Kidnap Squad of the command to rescue the victim unhurt.

Adebayo said, “The commissioner has been informed of the incident. The kidnappers entered the Rev. Father’s house at about 2.10am and abducted him.

“The CP had deployed men of the Anti-Kidnap Squad in the area to ensure the safe release of the victim.”
