The police in Lagos State have arrested a 34-year-old graduate of Law identified as Samuel Onochie for attempting to rape an eight-month-old pregnant woman in the Jakande area in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of the state.
Onochie, a graduate of the University of Benin, Edo State, according to a Punch report, ambushed the woman on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at about 6am.
He stripped the woman of her wrapper and subsequently assaulted her by dipping his fingers into her private part.
The suspect was said to have Almost penetrated the victim with his manhood but for a passerby who was attracted to the scene by the woman’s screams.
It was gathered that the passerby held onto the suspect awhile the woman jetted off to the Ilasan Police Division to report the assault.
Onochie was arrested and has been arraigned before a Tinubu Magistrate’s Court sitting in the state on one count of sexual assault.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted a N100, 000 bail by the presiding magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi wth two sureties in like sum.
Owolabi stated that the sureties must be related by blood to him and must have paid three years tax to the Lagos State Government.
Consequently, Owolabi ordered that the suspect be remanded in the prison pending the time he would perfect his bail conditions while the case was adjourned for further mention until Monday, March 14, 2016.
