Man, 27, Arrested For Serially Raping Over 60 Girls In Calabar

A serial rapist, Stephen Nyong, was on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 caught and arrested by youths in a community in Calabar, Cross River State.

The 27-year-old who hails from the Ikono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, is resident at 18b, Inyang Edem Street, Mount Zion, Calabar.

Nyong according to Vanguard, together with his partners in crime have been on rampage terrorizing women in the neighbourhood for about a decade.

It was learnt that since the year began, the rebels raided virtually every compound in the area every night raping both women and girls.

The head of Ndom Ndang community, Muri Okon Effiong, disclosed that it has been long since the assailants started their nefarious activities in the area.

He said, “As the custodian of this place, the chief and I took a decision to deal with them and we have arrested one today (yesterday).

“He and other gang members have raped over 60 girls. He alone had defiled over 20 girls this 2015. He has been chased in more than three compounds but was not caught. His sins have caught up with him today.”

Chief Effiong further disclosed that the gang usually stabbed and inflicted injuries on their victims and also stole their valuables after attacking them.

“It was last Sunday night’s attack that got the youths in the area enraged and they decided to lay siege for him and their kingpin on our instruction. Unfortunately, the leader of the gang, who is now at large, is responsible for grooming them over the years,” the monarch said.

A resident, Mrs Agnes Ubong, who attested to the story said Nyong stabbed her neighbours on the head after raping the.

She said: “after defiling my neighbour, Mary and her room mate, he stabbed both of them on the head and he also took their phones and N8,000 from them. They were both taken to the hospital this morning (yesterday).”

However, the aftermath of Nyong’s arrest was not disclosed, although it is expected that he would be duly brought to book after necessary investigations prove him guilty.
