Ondo: Grandmother Dies After Her Son-In-Law Beats Her Over Child Custody

Segun Daniel, a middle age man, has allegedly beaten his mother-in-law, Mrs Beatrice Lajuwomi to death over child dispute.

The incident happened on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at Abusoro Village in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The matter was said to have been reported at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Igbotako.

The Independent gathered that the suspect, who is at large, had purportedly broken up with his wife after only a child to their marriage.

Trouble began when the suspect went ahead to his mother-in-law’s house to demand for the child where he was resisted by his wife.

An eyewitness said : ” The man wanted to take the child, but his wife did not allow him which resulted in serious argument and fight.

” In that process, his mother-in-law came and was trying to separate them, but that does not go well with him. The woman slumps after she was beaten by the man.”

She was said to have been rushed to a private hospital in Igbotako where she was later confirmed dead.

Speaking with journalists, Femi Joseph, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, confirmed the incident.

Joseph disclosed that Police was on the trail of the suspect and promised that he would soon be arrested.

“Apparently sensing his offence, he absconded but our men are on his trail.

“I want to assure you that we will get him arrested and he will face the full wrath of the law,” the police spokesman said.
