LAGOS, Nigeria – A sense of disquiet permeated the ordinarily bustling neighborhood of Ojodu Berger, Isheri, Olowora Road in Lagos on Thursday, May 11, 2023, as locals awoke to a baffling and unsettling sight: an unidentified man found dead in his car.
The man, who has yet to be identified, was found naked and lifeless in a black Toyota, his body stretched across the front seats, head resting on the driver’s side and legs extending towards the passenger’s side. The circumstances surrounding his death remain obscure, and it has left residents of this usually vibrant community rife with speculation and concern.
An eyewitness, requesting anonymity due to fear of victimization, described the scene to our reporter. “We woke up to see his body lying naked in the car. There was no sign of violence on his body,” the witness stated.
While the man wasn’t recognized as a local resident, some street vendors in the area indicated he was a familiar face. “One of the hawkers in the area said he was a regular face,” another resident said. “The man was completely naked. His shirt and trousers were found on the floor of the car.”
The local police, from the Isheri Divisional Headquarters, were swiftly on the scene, promptly evacuating the body and removing the car. Our correspondent learned that the body had been transported to a local general hospital’s morgue.
A police officer from the station directed us to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ben Hundeyin, for additional details. “We are aware of the incident. We have taken the body to the General Hospital. You can contact the PPRO for more details,” the officer said.
However, attempts to reach Hundeyin for comment were unsuccessful as of Thursday evening, with multiple phone calls going unanswered and text messages yet to be acknowledged.
This tragic incident, shrouded in mystery, has left a palpable unease in the community as residents eagerly await more information about the identity of the man and the circumstances surrounding his death.
