New Nigeria Peoples Party Pledges To Support Buhari

Must read

NAN – The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has pledged to support the President-Elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, in his mission to give the country effective leadership and good governance.

The National Chairman of the party, Mr Boniface Aniebonam, made the pledge while addressing newsmen on the just concluded general elections at Umuawulu near Awka on Monday.

Aniebonam stressed the need for the opposition parties and stakeholders in the country to enter into responsible partnership with the president-elect.

“The best thing all Nigerians should do now is to embrace the rule of law and support the president-elect to move the country forward.

“It is time for Nigerians from different political backgrounds to rally round the president-elect and join hands with him in taking the country to the next level.”

The NNPP party chairman, however, urged Buhari to offer olive branch to his opponents and see his victory within the context of “No victor, No vanquished.”

He noted that the 2015 general elections conducted by the Prof. Attahiru Jega-led Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) encouraged the strengthening of winning parties.

According to him, this is killing the weaker parties and creating in the process the prospect of one party state.

He expressed concern over the poor performance of smaller parties in the elections and advocated more funding for political parties in the country.

“We are shutting down sustainable democracy in Nigeria by killing smaller parties.

“Parties should not be strangulated because they don’t have funds. Our party is hindered by lack of money and there is need for parties to be funded by the government,” Aniebonam stressed.

Aniebonam also urged the Igbo people to move fast, reposition themselves strategically and re-align forces with other regions towards attaining the presidency of the country in future elections.

He maintained that Igbo people had capacity to lead the country effectively and urged them to reposition themselves effectively for the challenges ahead.
