Renowned Nigerian media pioneer and founder of DAAR Communications Plc, High Chief (Dr.) Raymond Dokpesi, has died at the age of 71.
The Dokpesi family confirmed his passing in a statement delivered to The Trent on Monday, May 29, 2023.
The heartfelt family statement, signed by Dokpesi’s eldest son, Raymond Dokpesi Jr., detailed the family’s profound grief.
“With immense grief and deep sadness, the Dokpesi family regrets to announce the passing of their great leader, High Chief Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi, Ph.D, (Ezomo of Weppa-Wanno Kingdom),” the statement read.
Dokpesi passed away at an Abuja hospital where he was admitted after falling ill. The incident occurred at around 2:30 pm on Monday.
The loss of the distinguished businessman is deeply felt by the family and by the DAAR Communications Plc community.
“As a family, it is a loss that is almost impossible to come to terms with, and it is a grief collectively shared by the board and staff of DAAR Communications Plc, which he founded over two decades ago,” the statement added.
Raymond Dokpesi, a celebrated figure in the Nigerian media landscape, was known not only for his successful business endeavors but also for his philanthropy.
He dedicated his life to the service of his country and his community.
“He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, a friend, and mentor to many. He leaves behind a legacy that generations and those after him will be proud of,” the statement read.
In their time of grief, the family expressed gratitude for their outpouring of love and support and requested continued thoughts and prayers as they mourn the loss of their patriarch.
