Must read

Friday’s court proceedings on the detained leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu’s extradition suit against the federal government of Nigeria has been adjourned to December 14, 2022, for the final hearing.

Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, IPOB’s Lead Counsel, provided this update in a statement this afternoon.

Kanu was arrested in Kenya in June 2021, and transferred to Nigeria.

“Today, the Federal High Court in Maitama, Abuja, sat on our Suit challenging the abduction in Kenya, and extraordinary rendition of Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, filed before the Federal High Court, Abuja, against the Federal Republic of Nigeria & Anor, in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/462/2022, and another Suit challenging the constitutionality or otherwise of the 2022 Practice Direction on the trial of terrorism offences, filed against the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court &Anor, in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/550/2022,” Ejiofor’s statement reads.

“All preliminary pending applications in this Suit were heard today and granted, hence, setting the coast clear for the final and definite hearing on this important Suit.

“Also, the sister Suit seeking the invalidation of the New Federal High Court Criminal Practice Direction on the trial of terrorism matters was accordingly withdrawn as instructed.

“The reason is that this Practice Direction will not have a direct application on Onyendu’s matter.

“The Suit on the abduction and extraordinary rendition of Onyendu was consequently, adjourned to the 14th day of December 2022 for the final hearing.

“The Court ordered that the Suit must be heard on that date, and that in the unlikely event that any party is absent on this scheduled date, that the processes filed by the absenting Party will be deemed adopted on his behalf.

“We shall continue to keep you all updated on every development on Onyendu’s matters.

“As I had earlier assured, UmuChineke will be notified in good time, through the approved channels, any time Onyendu is billed to appear in Court, or his Judgement in Appeal Court is scheduled to be delivered.

“Thank you all, so immensely for your solidarity and prayers. May you all, Ezigbo UmuChineke, remain richly blessed.

“Forward ever and backward never. Ndewonu UmuChineke. We move!
