Abdullahi is accused of sexually exploiting a 10-year-old girl.

The court case was adjourned until August 3, 2023.

The authorities have charged Abdullahi and the victim’s parents with conspiracy and sexual abuse/exploitation.

Earlier, Prosecution Counsel Insp. Oluwakemi Arowosaye told the court that Abdullahi, Ahmed, and his wife Rofiat allegedly conspired to commit the sexual abuse.

The case continues to draw nationwide attention due to Abdullahi’s celebrity status as “Trinity Guy,” known for his entertaining skits.

The allegations’ seriousness casts a dark shadow over his public image, putting the spotlight on the issue of child exploitation in Nigeria.

Controversial Skit Maker, Trinity Guy, Faces Legal Reckoning Over Disturbing Content

Controversial Nigerian skit maker, Abdullahi Adisa, known by his moniker Trinity Guy, is poised to face legal consequences as he prepares to be charged in court on Monday, June 26, after voluntarily submitting to the Oyo State Police Command.

The Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, declared this development on Friday, June 23, 2023, specifying that the police summoned Trinity following a deluge of complaints about his pranks.

Through a tweet, CSP Adejobi disclosed that the police had received several complaints against Trinity, and various groups, non-governmental organizations, and civil liberties organizations have shown keen interest in the case.

He emphasised the impartiality of the law and voiced the hope that Trinity’s case would serve as a lesson to others.

“The law has no sentiment,” Adejobi wrote, adding that the case against Trinity is founded on legal provisions and is not personal.

On Thursday, the Oyo State Police Command indicated that it had extended an invitation to Trinity in the wake of mounting public outrage and calls from Civil Society Organizations and social media users for his arrest and prosecution for sexualizing a female minor in a viral video clip.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso, issued a statement denouncing the content of the video, which he said “depicted the sexualization of a female minor who was compelled in a conversation with the skit maker to describe his genitals.”

Osifeso stated, “The Oyo State Police Command genuinely appreciates the energy and effort invested by every creative mind in his/her craft. However, the command appeals strongly against offending the sensibilities of others through violence, sexual abuses, and other extremities in the name of entertainment.”

The contentious video, lasting just over 38 seconds, shows Trinity prodding a female minor to describe the color of his private parts, despite her protestations that she didn’t see anything.

In an exclusive telephone interview with The Trent, SP Osifeso indicated that calls for Adisa’s questioning escalated after his controversial videos garnered attention online.

“The civil liberty organizations and social media users have been going agog that we have not done anything about this guy (Adisa) and that we just left him to be misbehaving. So we have called him about this particular video. We have to invite him for questioning,” Osifeso said.

As Trinity Guy awaits his day in court, his case exemplifies the broader debate surrounding the responsibilities of content creators and the role of social media in holding them accountable.

The unfolding legal proceedings will be closely watched for their implications on freedom of expression and the protection of minors in the digital age.
