Obafemi Martins Impresses For Seattle Sounders Shortly After Eagles Falter In Tanzania

Nigerian striker, Obafemi Martins had a superlative performance for Major League Soccer side, Seattle Sounders on Saturday night.

Despite being overlooked by his country’s national team, Super Eagles for a very long time now, the 30-year-old has looked like the country’s best striker overseas.

His form for Seattle Sounders on Saturday night is one that may not be overlooked by the coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Sunday Oliseh.

The former Inter Milan man scored the first for Seattle Sounders as they ran home with a 2-1 victory over Toronto FC. Martins saw the back of the net in the 6th minute after he connected perfectly to a Clint Dempsey chip after the Nigerian beat the offside trap.

Toronto FC levelled the scores in the 59th minute through an Erig Zavaleta header.

After a timed a run-in behind the Toronto defense, Martins fired a shot at Toronto FC goalkeeper, Konopka in the 77th minute.

The former Newcastle United man’s strike partner, Clint Dempsey was on hand to fire in the rebound which won the games for the Sounders.

Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins were combining in front of goal for the first time since June.
