It is with a measure of elation that I hereby congratulate the good people of Ekiti State for restoring dignity in the democratic process by their exceptional conduct during last weekend’s Governorship elections.

The people of the State have proven without a doubt that the appellation “Land Of Honour” is well deserved. I enjoin all other citizens of our great country to emulate them as we prepare for another round of general elections early next year.

I also wish to commend His Excellency Governor John Kayode Fayemi for his show of uncommon magnanimity and sportsmanship by graciously conceding defeat. By this singular act he has advanced the ethos of our collective democratic experience. The “Omoluabi” conduct of my brother Governor Fayemi, once again exemplifies the noble nature of the people of the South West.

I would also like to congratulate my friend and brother Ayodele Fayose on his resounding victory at the polls. His election is an affirmation of the affection of the people of Ekiti, their belief in his leadership skills, and his vision for the future. Ayodele Fayose’s commitment to his people is unquestionable and worthy of emulation by other leaders. By this victory the people have reposed confidence in him, and placed a heavy responsibility on him to perform beyond their expectations.

Finally, President Goodluck Jonathan’s strong and consistent commitment to a free, fair, and peaceful election must be acknowledged and saluted.
