The Supreme Court has fixed Thursday, May 7, 2015 for hearing in an appeal filed by Senator Iyiola Omisore, the governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, during the August 9, 2014 election in Osun State. The court issued an appeal notice dated April 30, 2015 and dispatched to all the parties concerned, maintained that it would begin the hearing of the appeal.

Omisore appealed against the judgment of the Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, Ondo State, which affirmed the victory of Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress, APC. The Court of Appeal on April 2, 2015 not only dismissed Omisore’s petition for lack of merit, but went ahead to dismiss it on the ground that the petition was abandoned in gross violation of paragraphs 18 (1) of the first schedule to the Electoral Act,2010 (as amended).

The State Election Petition Tribunal had earlier dismissed Omsiore’s petition on February 6th 2015 challenging the victory of Governor Aregbesola on grounds of lack of merit.
