A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State, Dr. Ajon Ugboho, has said that only the sack of members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party would bring it out of coma.
Speaking with LEADERSHIP in Abuja yesterday, Dr Ugboho listed lack of internal democracy, imposition of candidates, selfishness of party leadership, regional and religious interests among the factors that caused PDP’s political paralysis and sent it into a coma.
According to him, unless the NWC members who apparently compromised the vision and interest of the PDP during the 2015 general elections are flushed out of the leadership of the party, PDP would defy all resuscitation efforts and remain in a coma for many years to come.
“I make bold to say that not one of the PDP NWC members is morally qualified to be in the leadership of the party or to oversee its activities. We need a totally new set of leaders to run the affairs of the PDP. The current NWC has compromised in all areas that would have been harnessed to strengthen and fortify the party. And unless we take this step, electoral victory will continue to elude us in virtually all future elections.
“How did they spend the over N11billion campaign funds? They failed to disburse the funds appropriately. Candidates in the last elections and their supporters were starved of funds. The NWC members cannot explain away the loss and damage they caused the PDP in this year’s elections.
And that is why I am of the opinion that they should be sacked before the forthcoming governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi states to ensure victory for the PDP,” Dr Ugboho said.
He further called for a probe into the allegations of misappropriation of funds and embezzlement by the former national chairman of PDP, Senator Ahmadu Ali and Senator Nenadi Usman, as part of efforts at repositioning the party.
