OSOGBO, Nigeria — The Osun State government has approved an increase in the minimum wage for civil servants to N75,000, marking a significant development in the state’s labour policies.

The announcement was made by Governor Ademola Adeleke via X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, November 22, 2024, underscoring his administration’s dedication to improving workers’ welfare and driving economic growth.

“I am pleased to announce the approval of the sum of 75,000 Naira as the new minimum wage for Osun State civil servants,” the governor stated.

He highlighted the decision as being aligned with the administration’s commitment to “social justice, economic growth, and an enhanced living standard for Osun teaming workers and citizens alike.”

The governor also used the platform to encourage civil servants to enhance their service delivery, emphasising the importance of transparency and accountability.

“I urge all civil servants in the state to up their service delivery by endlessly seeking innovative solutions to improve public service,” he added.

Special acknowledgement was given to the negotiation committee, led by Chief of Staff Hon. Kazeem Akinleye and the leaders of the State Labour Union, for their swift and effective collaboration in finalising the agreement.

Governor Adeleke expressed gratitude for their “commitment and swift action in concluding this special assignment.”

This wage increase comes as part of broader efforts by the 33-year-old state to address worker welfare amidst limited resources.

The governor assured that the administration would continue to prioritise civil servants’ well-being, recognising their contributions to the effective functioning of public services.

The announcement has been met with anticipation and cautious optimism by state workers, who view the wage adjustment as a step toward easing the economic challenges faced by many households.

Details on implementation timelines and other specifics are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
