The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has assured the people of the state that his administration will tackle flooding if he is elected governor.

Mr Udom added that he would build an international market and also construct a warehouse at Ibom International Airport, where imported goods and raw materials will be stored for onward movement into the hinterlands.

Speaking during a reception organised by Akwa Ibom market women for his endorsement at Itam Market, Uyo on Monday, March 2, 2015, Udom promised the women he would tackle the issue of Itam Market flooding.

He stated that it was heart breaking to see market women carry their wares on their heads whenever it rained in the market.

“We shall build an international market in Akwa Ibom State when I become governor. We shall construct a warehouse in Ibom International Airport where imported goods and materials will be stored for onward movement to their owners in hinterlands.

“We shall tackle flooding in Itam Market. It is a pity to see you carry baskets on your heads looking for where to stay whenever there is rainfall in the market. This will stop.

“I have met with your local government chairman and I have asked him to divide the market into two segments,” he said.
