PDP Holds Meeting Over APC, Buhari’s Tribunal ‘Manipulations’

Must read

Irked by the attempt by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to rubbish its electoral victories by using the election tribunals, the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) went into a crucial meeting on Thursday night aimed at countering the ruling party’s onslaught.

THISDAY gathered that part of the motives behind  the PDP leadership caucus meeting was to try and articulate the views that would portray the APC and the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration as running an oppressive government capable of snuffing life out of the opposition.

Leaders of the party started arriving for the meeting as from 8p.m. and by 9p.m. talks got underway with most of the PDP governors and national leaders in attendance.

A source said the opposition party would be strategise on how to punch holes in the actions and utterances of the APC and its administration, especially as it relates to the adjudication of election cases by the tribunals.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, had said in a statement last Monday that the caucus meeting  would focus on the unrelenting schemes by the APC and its federal government to use some unpatriotic elements in the judiciary to advance their plot to take over states won by the PDP, particularly Rivers, Akwa-Ibom, Delta, Taraba and Abia States.

He also said  the purpose of summoning an emergency meeting of the party’s national caucus was to discuss the current onslaught against the party and its candidates in the last general election, by the APC-led federal government.

“The national caucus meeting is in furtherance of the decision of the leadership of the party to fully activate its structures in stiff resistance to the manipulations, coercion and threats of the APC-led government, and in line with the unbending determination by the party not to, in any way whatsoever, surrender any mandate freely given it to by the people at any level across the country, no matter the pressure,” he said.
