Poetry: When We Hate – A Rejoinder To ‘The Gay, The Gayly, And The Gray – Who Made You God?’

Must read

Wars are inaugurated
Smiles are lost
Friendship becomes sour
Pains abound

Blood is shed
Lives are ruined
Both the innocent & guilty
That may be saved another day

We cease to grow
Happiness disappears
Arguments ruin our hearts
Tomorrow becomes bleak

Freedom becomes a luxury
Fear ushers in penury
Poverty of magnanimity and love
Tearing our souls into meaningless shreds

Darkness abounds
Even with the sun shining at night
Sorrows poison our fields
That should be green with seeds of peace

We wallow for long
In the muddy waters of controversy
While we should be fighting as one
All to one day share the victory hymn

Nigeria is large
Nigeria is beautiful
So many traditions & beliefs
So many ideologies & thoughts

We don’t all have to agree
On a common way of life & living
We don’t have to hate
If another chooses a different way

Our maker loves all the same
The wholly righteous & the perceived sinner
He never condemned a single soul
He sought liberation for all

When we hate,we loose our brilliance
We loose our beauty
We loose our meaning
We loose our magic

To correct a social ill
May it be done with love
That we may be remembered
As a generation that sacrificed all to reap peace.
