ENUGU, Nigeria – Enugu State Police have recovered a locally-fabricated double-barrel gun with one live and one spent cartridge from armed suspects near the New Artisan Bridge, just off the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.
The suspects fled the scene upon the arrival of the police.
This information was disclosed in a statement by the Command’s Spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, on Sunday, June 18, 2023, in Enugu.
The successful operation was carried out by police operatives from the New Haven Division of the Command on June 16, 2023, around 10:46 am.
Ndukwe explained that the suspects, having sighted the police, immediately abandoned their firearm and ammunition.
“The hoodlums abandoned their firearm with the ammunition on sighting police operatives, who immediately went on their trail, following the receipt of credible information that the miscreants were sighted in the location perfecting their criminal plans,” said Ndukwe.
Authorities are now engaged in a discreet investigation and manhunt for the criminals who managed to flee the scene.
“Meanwhile, discreet investigative and moves to fish out the fleeing criminal elements are underway,” Ndukwe assured.
While the suspects remain at large, this development underscores the proactive efforts by the local law enforcement to curb criminal activities in the area.
As the investigation progresses, DSP Ndukwe promised to keep the public updated on further developments.
