A woman identified as Mrs. Adeyemi and her baby who were abducted by kidnappers while driving along Standard Life Bible Church Road, off Direct Labour Agency, DLA Road, Asaba on Sunday, August 17, 2014 were rescued by policemen from the Delta state police command following a tip-off from an anonymous source.
Mrs Adeyemi who was driving a Kia Sorento Sports Utility Van, (SUV) was left unhurt due to the timely intervention by the policemen to the kidnappers hideout at Issele-Uku in Asaba.
Confirming the story, the Delta state police public relations officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, said when the police got wind of the information, they quickly mobilised their squad and found the baby inside the abandoned vehicle.
The DSP also added that the police are currently in hot pursuit of the escaped kidnapper.
Manwhile, in another development, Policemen attached to the Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad, SAKS, Obiaruku in Delta State arrested a 35-year-old kidnapper after a gun battle on Obiaruku-Utagba-Uno Road in the state.
According to reports, the kidnap gang invaded the apartment of a lecturer at the Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka, Mr. Emmanuel Okolie, at Ebayadata quarters, Obiaruku and absconded with his wife, Roseline, 52 , to an unknown location.
They also took his laptop valued at N140,000, Samsung X5 Galaxy phone, worth N90,000 and N260,000 cash.
Confirming the arrest, Delta state police public relations officer, DSP Celestina Kalu said,
“Sequel to report, operatives quickly mobilised and went after the hoodlums along Obiaruku/Utagba-Uno road.
“The kidnappers, on sighting the operatives, engaged them in a gun battle. Consequently, one of the suspects identified as Collins was arrested, while the remaining two escaped with bullet wounds and the victim was rescued unhurt.”
“The suspect has given the names of his accomplices who fled with their weapon. Meanwhile, investigation is in progress while efforts are on to track down the fleeing miscreants,” she stated.
