VATICAN, Rome – Pope Francis was taken to the hospital for a brief period on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, for some “clinical examinations”, according to a statement released by the Holy See spokesperson Matteo Bruni.
The pontiff has since returned to the Vatican.
The Pope was taken to the Gemelli Clinic for a few hours, although the Vatican did not disclose further details about the nature or purpose of these examinations.
Local media reports described his visit as pre-planned medical checks.
The leader of the Catholic Church was previously hospitalized for several days at the end of March due to bronchitis.
He returned to the Vatican in time to lead Holy Week and Easter weekend celebrations.
In late May, the Pope had to cancel planned audiences and appointments for a day due to a fever.
Despite these health concerns, Pope Francis continues to fulfil his duties at the Vatican.
