Rivers Assembly Approves Request For Sale Of Gov’t Owned Gas Turbine In Netherlands

The Rivers State House of Assembly has approved Governor Nyesom Wike’s request to sell off Rivers State Gas Turbine generating unit and accessories allegedly abandoned in the Netherlands and other power assets reported to be wasting away.

The lawmakers granted the request of the Governor during sitting on Monday, October 25, 2021.

Governor Wike in a letter to the house read by the speaker, Ikuyi Awaji Ibani reminded the lawmakers that the Rivers State Government had in 2012 bought the gas turbine generating unit from the then Alstom Switzerland now General Electric.

The Governor said the gas turbine generating unit was abandoned at the Verbrugge Zeeland seaport terminal in the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, the House also passed the 2022 Medium Term Expenditure Framework for the state.

The document sent in by the executive indicate a total revenue projection of over N483 billion with the total expenditure projected at the same amount as the revenue projection

Recurrent expenditure is projected at over N144 billion while Capital expenditure projection is pegged at about N314 billion.
