Wike’s Call to Rally Behind Tinubu Rings Hollow After Rigged Rivers Election

Must read

ABUJA, Nigeria – In a surprising show of unity, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has urged Nigerians to rally behind President-elect Bola Tinubu, declaring that the time for politics has now passed.

Tinubu, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, triumphed over Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, in the fiercely contested February elections.

Despite his allegiance to the PDP and his previous lack of support for the party’s candidate, Governor Wike is now advocating for Nigerians to stand by the incoming administration, which is due to take office on May 29th, 2023.

“Elections have come and gone. The winner has emerged, and therefore it is necessary for all Nigerians to give him the necessary support for the interest of Nigeria,” Wike said to journalists. This statement came after a meeting with Tinubu at the Defence House in Abuja on Friday, April 28, 2023.

Expressing faith in Tinubu’s leadership capabilities, Wike added, “I am confident that he has what it takes to turn Nigeria around.”

The Rivers State leader was not alone in his visit to the Defence House, as Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State joined him. This collaborative appearance further underscored Wike’s call for unity and support for the incoming president.
