At least 14 passengers were roasted to death on Wednesday , November 12, 2014, following an accident involving a fuel tanker and a truck carrying passengers and cattle along the Ogbomoso-Jebba Road Kwara state.
It was gathered that 14 other people sustained different degrees of injuries resulting from the tragedy..
According to Punch reports, the truck was said to have taken off from a northern state while the tanker was said to be heading towards the opposite direction when the vehicles collided.
Confirming the incident the Kwara State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mrs. Mary Wakawa disclosed that both vehicles had caught fire which led to the many deaths and injuries recorded.
She said, “One of the heavy duty vehicles veered off from its lane and collided with the other.
“Both vehicles went up in flame, 13 died on the spot while one died in the hospital. We rushed 14 injured passengers with severe burns to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.
“Already, with the support of the Kwara State Transport Management Agency, we had evacuated the wreck.
“Our drivers should stop long driving overnight. They need rest to avoid human errors on the roads.”
