Many Injured As Traders Clash With Touts In Lagos

Must read

Several persons on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 sustained varying degrees of injuries during a clash between traders and motor park touts, aka agbero at the popular Alaba International market in Lagos State.

The traders were reportedly protesting the extortion of their customers by the motor park touts before it escalated into a fight.

According to Vanguard, the motor park touts always demanded for tolls from motorists who bought goods from traders and usually harassed and assaulted customers who refused to pay.

The traders lamented how the constant harassment had scared customers away from patronizing them.

On the fateful day, the traders were said to have protested the touts’ harassment of a customer who had gone to purchase electronics and a verbal confrontation ensued before it further escalated into a free-for-all.

It was learnt that several dangerous weapons including broken bottles, cutlasses and guns were reportedly used before a combined team of policemen from Area ‘E’ arrived the scene and restored normalcy.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Joe Offor, said some persons have been arrested in connection with the clash.
