A Canadian doctor’s purported note to a patient’s employer has taken the Internet by storm, amassing more than 4 million views since it was uploaded online.
The letter, written for Alberta resident Kirby Reding, went after the man’s employer for requiring him to present a sick note for his absence from work.
“Kirby has had, by their own report, a cold today and sensibly stayed home from work rather than spreading this to his colleagues/customers,” it read.
“I have no test for the common cold and therefore believe him/her, however, you feel his time and mine should be wasted by making him sit in the walk in clinic for hours and me spending time writing a sick note that I could be spending on people who genuinely need attention,” the note continued.
It concluded, “Please reconsider your policy on this — there are surely better ways of wasting your tax dollars.”
A person who claimed to be a friend of the sick individual posted the note to Internet-community website Reddit this week, where it immediately went viral. According to the Imgur view count, it had been viewed more than 4 million times at the time of publication.
