Shock in Ondo as Governor Aiyedatiwa’s Campaign Coordinator Murdered in Home Attack

AKURE, Nigeria – In a chilling incident, Alaba Excel Abbey, a key campaign coordinator for the re-election of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, was tragically killed by unknown gunmen at his residence in Supare Akoko, located in the Akoko South West Local Government Area.

Mr Abbey, who worked diligently as a ward coordinator for the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot-Soldiers, fell victim to this violent act, prompting immediate condemnation and calls for a thorough investigation by local authorities.

David Ajobiewe, the Director-General of the Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation, spoke out about the tragic loss, describing Abbey as a non-violent and dedicated coordinator for Ward 10 of Supare.

“Excel had been a resourceful coordinator…and was never known to be violent and never had any history of a local or domestic dispute,” Ajobiewe stated on Sunday, April 28, 2024.

He further urged police authorities to “step up investigations into his gruesome murder and bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to book.”

The Ondo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed that the state command was aware of the incident and that an investigation was actively underway to uncover the motives and perpetrators behind Abbey’s murder.

The killing has sent ripples through the community and the state’s political scene, as colleagues and supporters mourn the loss of a man described as dedicated and peaceful.

The incident underscores the escalating concerns over safety and violence in the region’s political landscape.

As the investigation continues, local residents and political figures alike await answers, hoping for justice in the wake of this tragic event.
